Where: FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH

1701 VINE STREET, LEESBURG, FL 34748

COST:  $35 PLUS PATTERN COST $7

SUPPLY LIST:

This class is an excellent class for sewers wanting to expand their knowledge on color.  Strip piecing technique will be taught which makes four blocks at one time.  Options for setting the blocks will also be discussed. Required:   Sewing Machine in good working order.  Thread with your normal piecing thread, Pins, scissors.  The Guild has cutting mats and rotary cutters but bring, if you want your own.  Ruler- Candace prefers a long ruler for this class - 18".  We will work with large square rulers also since we will work with up to 14" square strip sets.  She will bring the patterns for "Southern Winter" with her.  They are $7 and can be paid when you pick them up.

Fabric:  You will need a nice collection of strips that range from 1" wide to 2 1/2" wide.  They need to be at least 14" long.  You can use shorter strips but he shorter the strips are the smaller your blocks will be.  14" strips make 9" blocks.  10" strips make 6" blocks.  It works well if there is also a color scheme that includes a good variety of colors and prints.  And/or types of prints.  For example, a collection of fall colors that includes large, medium, and small-scale prints, a check, stripe, or textural pattern.  2 strip sets will yield 4 blocks.  The color scheme for one of the sample quilts that she will bring is winter in the south.  Grey blues of a winter sky, the light khaki/golden colors of dormant hay fields, green evergreens, red clay peeking through the vegetation, brown and gray tree bark.  Another sample quilt is made from random lights and darks.  Any color scheme you like.  Time will be spent discussing several ways of organizing color using this technique.  That is part of the fun of this versatile block.
